CARTER PRECISION TOOLS
The time consuming practice of tool grinding, which often produces an imperfect cutting edge, is now eliminated when Sumitomo toolholders with indexable inserts are applied. These inserts have a number of cutting edges each of which, when worn, can be changed in a few seconds simply by removing a small screw, turning the insert and replacing the screw. The toolholder remains in the toolbox and the inserts are accurate enough to permit the operator to carry on machining without the need to preset the tool.
Sumitomo Cermets are made from Titanium Carbide as opposed to Tungsten Carbide. Titanium Carbide is a much harder cutting material which readily lends itself to the high shear geometries associated with HSS cutting tools with one big difference, the right grades of Cermet are more wear and heat resistant at the cutting edge. Grade T1200A is a versatile grade able to efficiently cut most workpiece materials at both high and low cutting speeds producing a superior surface finish with good tool life.
