                  HEALTH AND SAFETY

Sumitomo take every possible care to ensure that their products are safe and without risk when correctly applied. However, certain safety precautions should be observed.

Hardmetal is a reasonably inert, safe material for ‘throw away’ inserts, i.e. cutting tools that are not reground, but it is not as tough as HSS and can be fractured by shock or impact which may cause fragments to be detached at high speed. Carbide tools should not be hammered or subject to undue force and suitable eyewear or chip screen should be used to prevent the possibility of swarf reaching the eyes.

If higher cutting speeds are used it follows that gripping of the workpiece should be commensurate with any such increase.
