CARTER PRECISION TOOLS
SMALL FORMAT TURNING TOOLHOLDERS
SCLC toolholders use CC_ _style 80° diamond shaped inserts with two cutting edges and are the most versatile. They can turn to a square shoulder and face outwards; face into a square shoulder or centre; take roughing and finishing cuts in the directions of the arrows or light finishing cuts in the opposite direction. this tool covers most lathe work except for profiling. The centre screw locking makes changing and indexing inserts user friendly.
SDJC toolholders use DC_ _ 55° corner style inserts and, with two cutting edges, are considered the best choice for profiling or generating forms because of their ability to plunge and face. Capable of turning close to lathe centres. The included angle of 55° truncated Whitworth form threads can also be achieved, where possible, by tilting the toolholder 30.5° in the tool post.
SDNC toolholders can be used, without tilting the toolbox, for truncated Whitworth screw cutting. By tilting the toolholder they can also be used for the same operations as the SDJC toolholder.
STGC toolholders use TC_ _ 60° corner style inserts and , with three cutting edges, are the most economical for plain turning to a square shoulder. In some cases, by tilting the toolholder in the tool post 30°, it is possible to generate 60° truncated and metric form threads.
SCBC toolholders use the two 100° corners of the same inserts, thus providing economy by using all 4 insert edges. The SCBC is the strongest tool shape for work not involving square shoulders as the 15° approach angle provides a more gentle entry into and exit from the cut. It also prevents the creation of a troublesome ring at the end of a through cut.
